I am an artist based in Columbus, Indiana. I paint birds, animals, and florals inspired from my everyday life and travels. This work focuses on textures, colors, transparent washes, and playful line quality with pen and ink. My process begins with a realistic pencil rendering of the subject using personal photographs as references. Then I build layers of colors, highlights and shadow tones playing with the spontaneous nature of watercolors. Lastly, I begin the process of calming the chaos. I find peace in the moments of intense focus when painting flowing watercolor washes and balancing this with drawing with pens.
My Story
Janet Randazzo was born in Northwest Indiana in 1981. After graduating from Indiana State University with a BS in Art Education, Janet lived in North Carolina traveling from the coastal area, to Raleigh, and settling in the Appalachian foothills in Wilkes County. Janet lived and worked in the Ronda community for 16 years as a middle school art teacher at East Wilkes Middle School. She traveled to the beaches, sandhills, swamps, and mountains, hiking parts of the Appalachian trail and the Mountain to Sea trail. Being surrounded by the abundance of wildlife and nature has become a source of peace and is a major impact and inspiration for her art.
